Ca Mau

A visit to rural south Vietnam. Being a non-tourist area, getting accommodation became a bit of an issue with new laws enforced requiring hosts to fill out paperwork sponsoring our stay, being internationals did not help. Being white only made matters worse. Fortunately some friends helped us to find a few rooms at a comfort inn that wasn't too pricey and had air-conditioning, thank goodness! Because it was a scorcher down south.

Ponds and waterholes were dried up, fishes were dead or in the process of a painful death from the increased concentration of salt in the water, reports of eyes bulging and puffing from out of their tiny scaly heads. I can only empathize by imagining rubbing salt on a fresh wound, the wound being in your eyeballs followed by the burning inferno that engulfs your senses so overwhelming you don't know where to find relief, you run and flop around, flailing your limbs until death becomes a welcoming friend... poor fishes.

However, Ca Mau is well know for it's fresh seafood, exporting masses of prawns to the main city of Saigon. Surrounding us was prawn farm after prawn farm, needless to say we were more than happy with the hospitable meals provided.

Most of the time was spent indoors to avoid heat exhaustion but here are a few photos from our trip, enjoy!
